eBay is Shoplifting Free

I had to laugh this weekend as my friend Louise, aka: Herbs-Crafts-Gifts made a comment that I loved:
"In eBay you don't have to worry about shoplifting!"

Is that COOL or what?

As sellers on eBay vs. selling at the flea market or a brick-and-mortar store, there are always a couple shoplifters helping themselves to a few items here and there. Many times at the end of the day while unpacking the van, I could recall items missing.

I can remember chasing a guy through the flea market once in Chicago when he lifted something off my table. Then as I was running after him I was thinking at the same time, "What the heck am I going to do if I catch him?"

I mean really, I'm not wonder woman or anything.
I did have some Karate in college but he could hurt me, geeesh!

Once I realized that I stopped chasing him. It was not worth a few bucks lost vs. risking my life.

Louise was right on about her comment.

Think about it ............
No one can reach into our virtual shelves and run off with our eBay items!

Well, I may feel like it sometimes when an item slips through the cracks for 99 cents,, lol
But 99 cents is still better than a chase through the store isles!

She SOLD them on eBay!

"The only time I visit that "other" site is to log in and remove items that I sold on eBay!"
Quote from a fellow eBay seller that I will not name.

I had a nice chat with an eBay friend today who told me she had been "dabbling" with listing items on another auction site. She was sharing with me the temptation of trying out selling outside of the eBay box only because the "other" site was there, it was new so why not?

My feelings are if you want to "dabble" with selling outside of eBay then why not try your own website? Set-up is FREE and easy to do. This option is overlooked by so many.
Blogger has an easy to use format (this is what you are viewing right now btw) and wordpress has an amazing easy to use system as well.

You could blog about your items and send them directly to your eBay items.
You could blog about your items and offer a PayPal "Buy It Now" tab.

I would suggest letting your items "SIT" on a site YOU OWN or in an eBay store. But then again, how long should you let those items SIT? Did you do the research about those items? Is there even a market for them?

Anyhow, I thought it was interesting. This gal put her items into another site and yet they are still listed at eBay as well.
The same items!

The best part was, when she said she only goes back to that other site to log in and remove her items ----->
BECAUSE SHE SOLD THEM ON EBAY!!!!!!!

Is It eBay's Fault?

ANOTHER eBay store Closes its doors!

I swear, this is like the 3rd eBay store owner I've known to just throw in the towel and give up.

The trend I've been seeing is:

Gal gets an eBay account.
Sells a few items.
Opens an eBay store.
Spends night and day listing items.
Filling the eBay store.
More items in the eBay store.
eBay store bursting with items.
More days filling the eBay store.
Putting items out in the core as buy it now (outside the eBay store)
Adding lots of photos.
Trying to add a couple featured listings.
(guessing they can make more money if they feature the item)
Adding BOLD to a few items with the hope of making more money.
Upgrading to highlighting an item.
Adding more photos with the hope of making more money.
Listing more items in the eBay store.
Filling it with everything they can find.
Join a dropship company with HOPE of getting rich.
Paying a monthly fee to a dropship company.
Paying a monthly fee to a template service.
Paying a monthly fee to a CLUB because they think they can be a better seller if they keep paying monthly fees.
Next, may try an upgrade.
Upgrade the eBay store with hope of more exposure.
Put more items in the eBay store ......

3 months go by .....
Few sales here and there but monthly fees are very high.
Will find more JUNK to put in eBay store ......

May break even but fees are still high .. hoping to make it so keep putting items in the eBay store... then FRUSTRATION sets in ....... THROW in the TOWEL .. GIVE UP .....
poof CLOSE the eBay store ......

Now, list a FEW items on eBay and put more on sites that are FREE or CHEAP with HOPE of making more money ...... NOW, the items SIT and debt sets in.

Twiddling thumbs while the seller waits in frustration.
Still have inventory, few monthly fees roaming around ..

Must be eBay's fault ya think?

Can't make any money on the site, must be eBay's fault?

Lost money, must be eBay's fault?

...............................................................

TIME TO WAKE UP!

It seriously breaks my heart as I hear stories like this all the time.
Then, when the seller finally lets me know they are failing or I seek them out and lend a hand. We take a look at the figures together and OMG no one wants to buy the stuff they are selling in the first place! There is no market for their GOODS!

I wish I was still making thousands from one Beanie Babie!
OH those were the days!
But trends change and guess what?

IT'S NOT EBAY's FAULT!
